Not counting problems stemming from sleep deprivation, snoring can cause more serious health concerns. Snoring has been linked to increased risk of diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure; and heart disease. Snoring can also be a symptom of sleep apnea. Many relationships suffer as a result of snoring. The sleep partner of a person who snores may resort to sleeping in a separate room, which changes the relationship. Snoring as a result affects the physical and social intimacies of a relationship. More than 300 devices or cures to stop snoring are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office including Orthodontic anti snoring appliances. Some snoring devices are variations on the old idea of sewing a sock that holds a tennis ball on the pajama back to force the snorer to sleep on his side as snoring is often worse when a person sleeps on the back. Some devices open nasal air passages where a few others have been designed to condition a person not to snore by producing unpleasant stimuli when snoring occurs. If anti-snoring devices work, it is probably because they keep you awake.
